Shock absorber, hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders are larger and thicker than gas spring tubes, carry higher internal pressure, and rarely want a plain dome: some need a center hole for the rod, some a flat mounting face, some a flat ring around the hole for a seal. Hydraulic closing tooling gives one shape per set, and heavy wall closed in a single stroke tends to wrinkle or crack.
The forming rollers ride on X / Z servo slides; the closing path is split into stages with separate feed and speed, so heavy wall folds in layer by layer. Hole diameter, flat diameter and dome radius are program settings: a drawing change is a program change, with no wait for tooling. Cold forming, no weld seam, no heat-affected zone, thicker wall at the closure.
| Part | End form |
|---|---|
| Large shock absorber and damper cylinders | Center hole with flat seal land |
| Hydraulic cylinder tubes | Flat heavy-wall end, screw positions available |
| Pneumatic cylinder tubes, air reservoirs | Pressure-tight dome |
| Industrial gas springs and buffers | Dome or center hole to design |
Carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless steel; large-diameter heavy-wall tube up to Ø70 mm, evaluated per end shape. Good ductility required; welded tube needs a sound seam.
Send cylinder OD × wall × material × length and the end drawing (hole, flat, radius); TONG DA trial-closes and returns samples before you decide between a machine and contract closing. Full machine details on the TD-382 main page.
Can the hole diameter be changed?
Yes. It is a program parameter; the same rollers are used.
How many bore sizes on one machine?
Change the collet and jaw set for the bore; the end shape stays in the program.
