What torsion beams and stabilizer bars need

Rear-suspension torsion beams, torsion bars and front and rear stabilizer bars increasingly use hollow steel tube to save weight. The tube ends must be closed and formed to keep stiffness, keep moisture out and in some designs to shape the chassis connection. Large diameter, heavy wall and tight shape tolerances put these parts beyond a standard hydraulic closing machine.

TD-382 NC servo closing machine

TD-382 drives the forming rollers with a servo cross slide; the closing path is programmed, so dome radius, flat area and center hole follow the drawing, and a product change is a program change. Cold roll forming in one piece, no weld seam, no heat-affected zone, thicker wall at the closure. TONG DA has built multiple TD-382 units for automotive parts makers in Japan and Taiwan.
